സമാപനം
The capstone: write, then analyse

ഒരു പുറം മലയാളം എഴുതുക; എന്നിട്ട് സ്വന്തം വാക്യങ്ങൾ അപഗ്രഥിക്കുക.

Write a page of Malayalam prose, then take your own sentences apart with the whole apparatus of Arc B.

ഓർക്കുക · You already know this

In your very first lesson you said എന്റെ പേര് … ആണ്. Today you can say all of this about that sentence: എന്റെ പേര് is the ഉദ്ദേശ്യം, ആണ് the ആഖ്യാതം standing last as Malayalam requires, എന്റെ a സംബന്ധിക form, and the verb carries no person ending because Malayalam verbs never do. That is what the whole course has been: first the speaking, then the account of why the speaking is right. This last lesson asks you to do both at once.

സൂത്രങ്ങൾ · The rules

Write from the top down. Decide the idea, then how many paragraphs it needs, then the sentences inside each paragraph, and only last the individual words. Learners who start by hunting for impressive words end up with sentences that have nowhere to go.

ഇന്നത്തെ പണി: ഒരു പുറം എഴുതുക. വിഷയം സ്വയം തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുക — എന്റെ നാട്, ഞാൻ ഏറ്റവും ഓർക്കുന്ന ദിവസം, എനിക്കിഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ഒരാൾ. മൂന്നു ഖണ്ഡിക മതി.

Here is the assignment. Write one page of Malayalam — three paragraphs is plenty. Choose your own subject: എന്റെ നാട്, ഞാൻ ഏറ്റവും ഓർക്കുന്ന ദിവസം, എനിക്കിഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ഒരാൾ. Write it in one sitting without stopping to check anything. The checking comes next, and it is a separate job from the writing.

Analysis runs in the opposite direction from writing: bottom up. Find the finite verb at the end first — it is the anchor every other word is attached to. Then ask who or what it is said of, and then take each remaining noun and name both its case form and the role it plays.

ഓരോ പദവും നാലിലൊന്നാണ്: നാമം, ക്രിയ, ഭേദകം, ദ്യോതകം. ക്രിയയ്ക്ക് ധാതു, കാലം, പ്രകാരം എന്നിവ പറയുക; നാമത്തിന് വിഭക്തിയും വചനവും. ഇത്രയും ചെയ്താൽ ഒരു വാക്യം പൂർണമായി അപഗ്രഥിച്ചു.

Every word in your page belongs to one of four classes — നാമം, ക്രിയ, ഭേദകം, ദ്യോതകം. For a verb, name its root, its tense and its mood; for a noun, its case and number; for a compound, its വിഗ്രഹം. Do that for ten of your own sentences and you have used almost everything Arc B taught, on material that matters to you because you wrote it.

വ്യാകരണം ആസ്വാദനത്തിനുള്ള ഉപകരണമാണ്, ആസ്വാദനത്തിനു പകരമല്ല.
നിയമം 3
ഒരു കവിതയിലെ വൃത്തവും അലങ്കാരവും കണ്ടെത്തുന്നത് ആ കവിത എന്തുകൊണ്ടു ഹൃദയത്തിൽ തട്ടുന്നു എന്നറിയാനാണ്.
Naming the metre of a poem or the figure in a proverb is not the point; it is the way in. The grammar tells you what the writer did, and then you are free to ask why it worked. A reader who can do both gets more from a page than a reader who can do either one alone.
Two roads onward. For grammar: കേരളപാണിനീയം, the 1896 grammar by എ. ആർ. രാജരാജവർമ that this arc has followed; വൃത്തമഞ്ജരി, the same author's prosody; ലീലാതിലകം, the fourteenth-century grammar of Maṇipravāḷam; and ശബ്ദതാരാവലി for the dictionary habit. For reading: a newspaper every day, and any novel or poem you enjoy enough to finish.

നിങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയത് 'നമസ്കാരം' എന്ന ഒറ്റ വാക്കിൽനിന്നാണ്. ഇനി മലയാളം ഒരു പാഠപുസ്തകമല്ല, ഒരു വാതിലാണ് — ആളുകളിലേക്കും കഥകളിലേക്കും തുറക്കുന്ന വാതിൽ. നന്ദി.

You began with one word, നമസ്കാരം. From here Malayalam stops being a syllabus and becomes a door — into conversations, letters, songs, and books nobody has translated for you. Keep a notebook of words you meet, read something every day, and speak even when the sentence is not perfect. That is how the rest of it is learned. നന്ദി.
