വിശദീകരണം · Explanation

ആറ്, ഏഴ്, എട്ട്, ഒൻപത്, പത്ത് — ഇതോടെ ഒന്ന് മുതൽ പത്ത് വരെ പൂർണം. ഒമ്പതിന് രണ്ടു എഴുത്ത് ഉണ്ട്: 'ഒൻപത്', 'ഒമ്പത്'. ചില്ല് 'ൻ' ഉള്ള രൂപം എഴുത്തുഭാഷയിൽ.

Six to ten completes your first ten: ആറ് (āṟu), ഏഴ് (ēḻu), എട്ട് (eṭṭu), ഒൻപത് (onpatu), പത്ത് (pattu). Two spellings to note. ഒൻപത് is written with the chillu ൻ; you will also meet ഒമ്പത്, which is the same word and is very common — either is accepted, and ഒൻപത് is the careful written form. And ഏഴ് takes ഴ, not ള or ല: that sound is one of Malayalam's own.

'എത്ര?' ചോദ്യത്തിന്റെ ഉത്തരം ഒരേ രൂപത്തിൽ: സംഖ്യ + നാമം + ഉണ്ട്. ഏഴു ദിവസം ഉണ്ട്. എട്ട് പുസ്തകം ഉണ്ട്. പത്ത് പേർ ഉണ്ട്.

The answer to an എത്ര question has one fixed shape: numeral, then noun, then ഉണ്ട്. ഏഴു ദിവസം ഉണ്ട് · എട്ട് പുസ്തകം ഉണ്ട് · പത്ത് പേർ ഉണ്ട്. The noun stays in its plain form however large the number is, and ഉണ്ട് never changes either. For people, keep പേർ after the numeral, exactly as in the last lesson.

നാമത്തിന്റെ മുന്നിൽ സംഖ്യയുടെ അവസാനത്തെ ് പലപ്പോഴും ഉ ആയി എഴുതുന്നു: ആറു മുറി, ഏഴു ദിവസം, പത്തു പേർ. ആറ് മുറി, ഏഴ് ദിവസം — ഇതും ശരി.

When a noun follows, the final ് of the numeral is very often written as ഉ: ആറു മുറി, ഏഴു ദിവസം, പത്തു രൂപ. Nothing has changed in the grammar — this is only the ordinary written shape of the closed സംവൃതോകാരം when another word comes after it. ആറ് മുറി and ആറു മുറി are both correct, and you will see both.

ഒന്ന് മുതൽ പത്ത് വരെ മൂന്നു തവണ ഉറക്കെ പറയുക. പിന്നെ വീട്ടിലെ സാധനം എണ്ണുക: 'അടുക്കളയിൽ ____ പാത്രം ഉണ്ട്.' 'വീട്ടിൽ ____ മുറി ഉണ്ട്.' 'എന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിൽ ____ പേർ ഉണ്ട്.'

Say ഒന്ന് to പത്ത് aloud three times, then count real things at home and say each sentence out loud: അടുക്കളയിൽ … പാത്രം ഉണ്ട്, വീട്ടിൽ … മുറി ഉണ്ട്, എന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിൽ … പേർ ഉണ്ട്. Then ask a partner എത്ര പേർ ഉണ്ട്? and make them answer in the same shape: numeral, noun, ഉണ്ട്.
