വിശദീകരണം · Explanation

'മീര സാധനം വാങ്ങുന്നു.' 'ദേവൻ സാധനം കൊടുക്കുന്നു.' ഒരേ കാര്യം, മറിച്ചു പറയുന്നു. ആൾ, സാധനം, പ്രവൃത്തി — ഈ ക്രമം മലയാളത്തിൽ എപ്പോഴും ഒന്നുതന്നെ.

വാങ്ങുക and കൊടുക്കുക are the two sides of one event: മീര സാധനം വാങ്ങുന്നു, ദേവൻ സാധനം കൊടുക്കുന്നു. The order is always person, then thing, then verb — and neither noun carries any ending. എടുക്കുക is the third of the family: to take or pick up, whether you paid for it or not.

പാൽ + ഉം = പാലും. അരി + ഉം = അരിയും. 'ഞാൻ പാലും അരിയും വാങ്ങുന്നു.' ചോറും കറിയും — ഇതേ '-ഉം' തന്നെ.

To name two things together, add -ഉം to each of them, exactly as in ചോറും കറിയും: പാൽ becomes പാലും (the chillu ൽ softens to ല before the vowel) and അരി becomes അരിയും (a യ glides in between). So ഞാൻ പാലും അരിയും വാങ്ങുന്നു — I am buying milk and rice.

'വില എത്ര?' — ഇവിടെ 'ആണ്' പോലും ഇല്ല. 'വില', പിന്നെ 'എത്ര', അത്രതന്നെ. ഇത് ദിവസവും കേൾക്കുന്നു.

വില എത്ര? is the everyday way to ask a price — literally 'price how much?', with no verb at all. You cannot yet answer it, because Malayalam numbers arrive in level 3; until then let the shopkeeper point at the label, and practise the asking. One more thing you cannot say yet: to whom you give something. That needs a small tail (-ന് / -ക്ക്) which is level 3's business, so for now keep the giver as the subject: ദേവൻ ബാഗ് കൊടുക്കുന്നു.
