Explanation
English puts and in the middle: rice and curry. Malayalam puts -ഉം at the end of each item instead: ചോറും കറിയും. Both words carry it, and there is no separate word for 'and' anywhere. Three items work the same way, every one of them wearing its own -ഉം.
Joining it on changes the spelling a little, and three patterns cover almost everything. After a plain consonant the ് simply gives way: ചോറ് → ചോറും. After a vowel a യ slides in: കറി → കറിയും, മീര → മീരയും. After the ം of words like ഭക്ഷണം, that ം turns into വ: ഭക്ഷണവും, വെള്ളവും. And a chillu opens back up into its full letter: താക്കോൽ → താക്കോലും.
Put -ഉം on one word only and the sense shifts from 'and' to 'too': ഞാനും കഴിക്കുന്നു, 'I'm eating as well'; പച്ചക്കറിയും ഉണ്ട്, 'there's vegetable too'. Same little suffix, two jobs — count how many words are wearing it and you will always know which one is meant.

Use it
Say what is on your plate today: Then stretch the list to three items, giving each its own -ഉം: ചോറും കറിയും പച്ചക്കറിയും. Finish with the 'too' sense by pointing at somebody else and saying അവനും കഴിക്കുന്നു.
