'ഞാൻ വസ്ത്രം ധരിക്കുന്നു.' — ആദ്യം ആള്, പിന്നെ സാധനം, അവസാനം ക്രിയ. സാധനം അതേപടി നിൽക്കുന്നു: വസ്ത്രം, സോപ്പ്, വെള്ളം — പദപ്പട്ടിക പറയുന്ന അതേ രൂപം.

The shape of a Malayalam sentence with an object is subject, object, verb: ഞാൻ വസ്ത്രം ധരിക്കുന്നു, literally 'I clothes wear'. And the object needs nothing added to it — വസ്ത്രം here is exactly the വസ്ത്രം of the word list, unchanged. Malayalam does have an object ending, but it belongs to level 3 and to people rather than things; for now, name the thing plainly and put the verb last.

പട്ടികയിൽ ക്രിയ എപ്പോഴും -ഉക രൂപത്തിൽ: കുളിക്കുക, ധരിക്കുക, കഴുകുക, വരുക. അതാണ് ക്രിയയുടെ പേര്. വാക്യത്തിൽ അത് മാറുന്നു: കുളിക്കുന്നു, ധരിക്കുന്നു.

Every word list, dictionary and vocabulary table in this course names a verb in its -ഉക form: കുളിക്കുക, ധരിക്കുക. Think of it as the verb's own name, the way English says 'to bathe'. You almost never say it in that shape; you convert it — final ക out, -ന്നു in — the moment you use it in a sentence.

'വെള്ളം ഉണ്ട്' — സാധനം ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്. 'സോപ്പ് ഇല്ല' — ഇവിടെ ഇല്ല. ഇതും ക്രിയ പോലെ അവസാനം വരുന്നു.

Two words you already met in level 1 do a lot of work in a bathroom or a kitchen: ഉണ്ട് for 'there is / we have got' and ഇല്ല for 'there isn't'. Like a verb, they come last: വെള്ളം ഉണ്ട്, സോപ്പ് ഇല്ല. Add the question suffix and you can ask for anything in the house — വെള്ളം ഉണ്ടോ?

ഉറക്കെ പറയുക: 'ഞാൻ രാവിലെ കുളിക്കുന്നു. ഞാൻ വസ്ത്രം ധരിക്കുന്നു.' പിന്നെ ചോദിക്കുക: 'വെള്ളം ഉണ്ടോ? സോപ്പ് ഉണ്ടോ?'

Say your getting-ready aloud, adding it to yesterday's three sentences: ഞാൻ രാവിലെ കുളിക്കുന്നു. ഞാൻ വസ്ത്രം ധരിക്കുന്നു. Then practise asking for what you need in someone's house — വെള്ളം ഉണ്ടോ? സോപ്പ് ഉണ്ടോ? — and answering both ways, ഉണ്ട് and ഇല്ല.
