Is your language English?
Yes, English. Malayalam is not my language.
Never mind! From now on we are friends — you and us.

Explanation

'we' രണ്ടാണ്.

English has one 'we' and it is ambiguous; Malayalam has two and makes you choose. ഞങ്ങൾ leaves the person you are speaking to outside the group — Leela says ഞങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെയാണ് meaning herself and Meera, not John. നമ്മൾ takes them in — ഇനി നമ്മൾ കൂട്ടുകാരാണ് includes John, and that is exactly why the sentence is warm. Choosing wrongly is not a grammar mistake so much as a social one: an ഞങ്ങൾ where നമ്മൾ was meant quietly shuts somebody out.

'ക്ഷമിക്കണം' രണ്ടിനും: sorry, excuse me.

സ്വാഗതം means welcome, said to someone arriving — a guest at your door, a visitor to your town. It is not the answer to നന്ദി; Malayalam has no fixed 'you're welcome', and people simply say സാരമില്ല or smile and say nothing at all. ക്ഷമിക്കണം does double duty: it apologises, and it also opens a sentence to a stranger, the way English uses 'excuse me' before a question.

ഉവ്വ് is a second word for yes, standing beside അതെ from lesson 2. അതെ is the neutral, slightly formal yes; ഉവ്വ് is the easy conversational one you will hear across a kitchen table. Both are denied by the same ഇല്ല. And notice the small ് at the end of ഉവ്വ് — that is not a missing vowel but a real one, short and closed. Malayalam writes it all over the place, in അത്, ഉണ്ട്, പേര്, and Arc B will give it a name.

This is the last lesson of level 1, so say the whole thing standing up. Greet and welcome: നമസ്കാരം! Introduce yourself in three sentences: എന്റെ പേര് … Hand the conversation over: And close it warmly, with the inclusive we: That is ten lessons' worth of Malayalam in about forty seconds, and every word of it is usable today.
